Sue Danielson Untitled 1 (Purple Matrix)
Sue Danielson Untitled 1 (Purple Matrix) \ 2016 marker, colored pencil and acrylic on panel 10 x 8 inchesUntitled 1 (Purple Matrix) is a small-sized 10 x 8 inch painting made of layered paint and collage on canvas. The design and thickness of the paint is flat with some spots of varied texture which creates a pattern across the panel. This piece is on cradled panel and ready to hang.
Sue Danielson’s newest body of work on paper and panel continues her exploration of map-like forms on memory and mark-making. She layers her materials in a variegated pattern and calligraphic form using acrylic paint, ink, or graphite. The tangled growth seems to trace a path of travel through space, mimicking the iconography of a city map, but one that is unfathomably complex and detailed — so much so that it becomes a kind of science fiction landscape.
Sue Danielson is a self-taught Seattle-based artist from Western Washington and founder of the Duwamish Residency, currently represented by Bridge Productions. To see which of her larger works are available, her gallery is here.
